Semi Dry Sift Hash
Semi dry sift hash is a traditional cannabis concentrate made by mechanically separating resin glands (trichomes) from dried cannabis flowers using fine screens. It represents a middle grade between basic kief and highly refined full-melt dry sift. The process preserves much of the plant’s natural resin and terpene profile while allowing a small amount of microscopic plant material to remain, giving the hash its characteristic texture, color, and balanced potency. Semi dry sift is widely appreciated for combining authentic, old-school hash craftsmanship with a cleaner and more aromatic result than standard commercial grades.
What is Semi Dry Sift Hash
Semi-dry sift hash is a cannabis concentrate made by sieving cannabis with slightly higher moisture than traditional dry sift, resulting in a less powdery, slightly sticky, and softer trichome collection that’s easier to press, differing from very dry, powdery sift by its softer, more resinous texture. It’s produced by agitating cannabis over mesh screens, but using less dried plant material allows for a slightly moist, cohesive final product, capturing more of the resin glands (trichomes).
How it’s Made (vs. Traditional Dry Sift)
- Slightly Moist Material: Instead of fully dried-out cannabis, semi-dry sift uses plant material with a little more moisture, explains.
- Sieving Process: The material is agitated (often with vibrating screens) over fine mesh sieves, similar to dry sifting.
- Trichome Collection: The trichomes, containing cannabinoids and terpenes, fall through the mesh.
- Texture Difference: The slight moisture prevents the trichomes from becoming completely powdery, creating a softer, stickier, and more pliable material.
- Texture: Softer, less powdery, slightly sticky, and easier to compress than traditional dry sift.
- Purity: Still aims for high purity but with a different consistency than very dry, fine powders.
- Production: A mid-ground between fully dried-out dry sift (very powdery) and ice water hash (wetter).
